I had a really good time with my dad, my aunt and uncle and cousin. It was a lot of fun. I learned a lot about myself throughout that race. I found out how important it was to really listen to what was important in life. The Lord. How important my prayer life is and what to do to keep growing in the Lord, it was an awesome experience for me. I am so thankful that my dad was able to share it with me! : )

February - I was recovering through a little knee injury, therefore I took some time off running for about a week. It was hard, but it also taught me other things to do. I was able to study more... which is always fun.

March - I went up to Tulsa to compete in a 5k... I got third place. It was fun, mom got to go with me and I was able to visit a good friend (Anna Erb) and see my Cousin Matt and Danielle and their sweet baby Ethan! Spring break was also that week which was filled with work and training.

April - I went out to Boston to run that Marathon on the 20th! It was well... I dont even know of words to describe how awesome it was. I will post pics. I ran it in 3:31. I had my fastest marathon out there and the cool thing was - I wasnt even sore after. I had so much fun talking and enjoying the company of the different runners from all over the country. I actually met a lady at the beginning of the race and we ran the entire marathon together. She was from Alabama and now we email. I was able to talk about the Lord with her and enjoy our conversation. Now, THIS IS WHY I LOVE RUNNING. : )

May - The pics below are actually from the same day. ha. Dad took me to a 5k in Guthrie, OKlahoma. I got first place and the guy in the yellow was 1st place male. It was fun. I rushed home had about an hour to get ready and lefto for Katherine high school graduation. This picture is of the Schiete girls and our cousin Jessica (She lives in Omaha... I love her!). We had a good time with family & friends. I thank the Lord for my family and especially Katherine and her big day!

Kathy's Graduation!!

"The See Spot Run"

I am on break this week from School... It was so good to see Anna and her family once again. Thanks Anna for a fun time!
We went bowling with her church and then to the Cheesecake on the Plaza (in KC). It was a lot of fun. I was happy to get away from Oklahoma and spend time with some brothers and sisters in Christ.
2008... one more day closer to the Lords return. I was reading my Choice Gleanings and over the past few days its been about the new year. SOme words popped out to me: "As we step into this new year may we be truly thankful for our blessings, yet resist being caught up with them." This hit me hard, I am so thankful for what the Lord has provided, but it really is easy to get caughtup in them...
Let's be thankful for everything the Lord has given us, but always be remembering the "Giver" of all things... not the "things".

:-)

Its about time...

I figured that its been way too long since I have updated at all! :-(

To start, I just wanted to thank my Father in Heaven for His wonderful and gracious love towards me. I wouldnt be the person I am today if it werent for Him and what He did for me on the cross many years ago. I am so thankful for my family and friends and the encouragement that everyone has provided me with throughout this first semester of LPN school.

School... its going well. I am done with my first 2 clinical rotations and we are starting Pharm and MedSurg together. The day I go back to school (the 6th), I have my first Pharmacology exam! I would appreciate prayers for the rest of the year. Lord-Willing I will graduate in June. I just hope and pray that I can manage my time properly.

Running... aka: the other half of Heather Anne :-). I am enjoying it very much. I am flying to Phoenix in 3 weeks to run a marathon. The nice thing is that New Balance comped my entry fee... so that saved me over $100. Dad will be going with me. His brother, Kent, lives out there with his family so we will be staying out there! I am so excited. The Lord has been teaching me so much with training properly and eating correctly. I have been blessed to have a very supportive family who thinks its "cool" that I do these marathons for fun. I know that I wouldnt even be able to make it to the starting line without the help of my Lord and Savior. He is with me throughout everything I do. I love being able to run with Him, he is a great training "buddy". I can talk to him all I want... and not run out of breath! :-)

I did it!!!!
I ran the Detroit International FreePress Marathon on October 19, 2008!
It was the most thrilling marathon yet. Marathon Time!

On October 19th, I will be running in the Detroit Marathon. Its during fall break, so I dont have to miss any school to fly up there PLUS, I get to see my family. To briefly describe the race... its the only marathon that crosses internationally (to Canada) twice AND I get to run over the Ambassador Bridge and through the Windsor tunnel... so, I am running for a mile underwater. How cool!??!

Okay... its been a long time since ive posted. Here are some things that have been going on:

1) I am in Practical Nursing school full-time, I love it. My professors are wonderful and I am getting to become friends with everyone in the program!

2) I am working part-time (about 16hrs a week) at a running store, which is great because I get discounts of running apparel.

3) I am coaching a couple or programs that are based out of our store. So, I get paid to run... which is fun for me!

4) The Lord is showing me new things everyday, especially with nursing school, and I am trying my best to glorify Him in everything I do.

Dad and I leave the 17th for MI, please pray for our flights (if I dont post before then).

Ill post pictures ASAP!!

LONG OVERDUE---

Wow, it has been a long time since I posted. I just thought id share a little bit of what the Lord has been doing in my life recently. :-)
First off, I can mention enough how wonderful and forgiving the Lord is to us. He is someone that I can always turn to if I need someone to talk to. He always listens to me, when I feel like no one understands me. And most importantly He has given me eternal life because of His son who died for ME! One word: Unbelievable.

One big thing that happened this summer was my acceptance to Practical Nursing school. First day is August 15th, and I am so excited. I would love to be thought of in your prayers while I am going to school. Its an intense 8a-4p, Monday - Friday program. Lord-willing I will be done in June.

If you would please keep my grandparents (both sides) in your prayers. My grandpa schiete is doing so much better since he had surgery in early March. I want so badly to see all of my family everday... sometimes I dislike living so far away from my family over the U.S. But, I know that the Lord has everything planned out perfectly and I just have to keep trusting Him.

I guess this little post is just a 'venting' post. But... I have been so frustrated and tired. I just needed to type.

What's funny is that... I get so frustrated sometimes and then I think of what the Lord has done for and given to me. Isnt He wonderful?!

-Heather Anne

Yes, the rumors are true.

I did run a marathon this past weekend.

On April 27, 2008 - I was blessed to run an entire marathon at the 8th Annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. One word that sums 99% of it would be emotional. Running and FINISHING a marathon has been a goal of mine ever since I thought about running. I never thought that I would've been able to do it after running for 10 months. Every time I got tired I would just pray and think of the verse - I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength. It was an incredible experience for me. Oh yea... and my time was 3hours41 minutes and 11 seconds. Just 12 (yes, TWELVE) seconds from qualifying for the Boston Marathon. But, thats a year away... so, I have plenty of time to improve! :-)

The picture is My coach Mike Detter and I. He jumped in with me at mile 25 and finished it with me. I don't think I could've had a better time without with help. We sprinted the last mile...it was worth it!

You can go to www.okcmarathon.com and click on "picture" and then type in my bib number 2994 to see more pictures of me! The speaker was Scott DeGroff. He spoke from Romans 1 -12. It was such an encouragement to me to see everyone who came out to the conference. It was a good weekend. Scott reminded us that we are "slaves on a mission" and that our main job as a Christian is to be a light for the Lord and spread the Gospel. It was good to relax, see family and just enjoy God's creation in another state. I love traveling :)
Anyways... this first picture is of my grandparents and I on Sunday after chapel. The thursday I got to Detroit, my grandpa was rushed to the ER due to stroke-like symtoms. He was admitted to the hospital on Feb 28th and is still there. He had surgery on that next monday (he had 2 blood brain clots of either side of his brain). He was "asleep" for 9 days after surgery, but is doing a lot better! The Lord has really taught be how selfish my heart really is. It's hard to admit this, but it's so true. "My heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" (Jer 17:9) Sometimes, it's so hard to comprehend how foolish I really am. But, the Lord has also taught me how "He searches the heart and examines the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve" (Jer 17:10) So, eventhough I have a sinful and deceitful heart the God of creation (in HIS humble and matchless presence) gives us a chance. Just because I have a deceitful heart, the Lord examines it and makes us as white as snow. "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. --- Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me" (Ps 51: 10 & 12) My God... such a wonderful thing He has done for a lowly and selfish sinner like myself.
One thing (that has taken me 19 years to figure out) that has become almost a 'ritual' to me is the fact that I can be down or frustrated, and then I can look to the Word and find an encouraging verse every single time. His word is so wondeful and Holy.
I was at one of Jabe Nicholson's seminar a couple of months ago and he used this analogy when going through Genesis and it has stuck in my mind since then:
To return evil for good is wickedness
To return evil for evil is the law
To return good for good is natural and
To return good for evil in Christianity.
I think that little analogy has been on my heart because of my attitude towards others recently. Due to my lack of "free time" in my life right now, sometimes I feel like I don't get to hang out with friends as much as I would like to. This semester isnt near as crazy as last semester, but I do feel like I am kinda alone. Working with adults all the time also makes me wonder if that is why I dont hang out with people my age. I guess I am so used to adults, I really treasure and respect what they have to say. But the Lord is always here for me. What a encouragement to KNOW that He is always here for me, no matter what the circumstances.

If you just pray that I will listen to my Heavenly Father for everything... not just the things I want to hear.

Ode to School.

Well, not excatly, but this semester has been full of it. A little update on my family and I: I'm still working, going to school and training for the OKC Memorial Marathon http://okcmarathon.com on April 27th! Mom and Dad are doing very well... dad was sick for a long period of time, but the Lord is good and we are all well. Stephen has a full plate of school for him this semester filled with tough courses required for his degree. Melissa is going to school, working at Bath and Body Works and still teaching piano! Katherine and Sarah are still both being homeschool by my amazing mom. Kathy's birthday is actually today... she is 17 years old! I really can't believe! It's so neat to see how the Lord is working in each one of our lives!

Please keep Paul Renes in your prayers -- he was taken to ER yesterday due to some internal bleeding in the esophagus. He will be staying there for his second night in a row (tonight). The Hughes - Horn family -- with the loss of little Elliot on January 21, they are needing prayer and comfort. My Summer Plans -- I have not quite decided what to do, but I do know that the Lord is in control and I am just trying to listen to Him!

Hope your first month of the New Year was blessed!

My buddy, Sarah, and I on our way to Wichita last weekend (I think I was at a stop sign... :-) )

it's Me... Four of the kids were in a auto accident late Thursday night in Waco, TX. Here is the article from the TX news station:
(January 11, 2008)—The accident happened before just 10:00pm Thursday, on Interstate 35 in Bellmead near Loop 340.
Police say two tires from the wheels of a south-bound 18-wheeler trailer came off of the rig and crossed the median. One of the tires struck a north-bound Honda Accord. The impact apparently had enough force to cut the passenger compartment of the vehicle in half.
The driver of the Honda, 23-year-old Luke Hausmann, of Atchinson, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other passengers, ages 16, 19 and 20, were all taken to a local hospital. One of the passengers is still listed in critical condition
DPS closed the interstate, diverting all traffic to the access roads while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.
This following article was found at www.kwtx.com

-Heather Schiete

Well... it's 7 days into the year of 2008.
The Lord is so faithful. I am actually very excited because I will get some sleep. And thats one thing that I am desperately in need of! :-)

The GNOM team came down this past week. It was awesome... the entire team was such an encouragement to me. We had the wonderful priviledge of housing the DeGroff family. We went to UCO a couple of times and had a lot of outreach in Guthrie, which was amazing. My family. Even when I am having a bad day, they always are so caring no matter that the circumstances.
2. My job. My current job, working at a law firm, has been such a blessing to me. I will be quitting at the end of November and I dont want to... at all. But, I did get an intern at a PT office for the spring, which I am so excited about!
3. School. Yes, I said it... school. I am so thankful for all of my profesors this semester. No matter how stressed out I get... they have been very receptive to emails, phone calls, etc. All of them really have a heart for their students and its very encouraging to me!
4. The ability to run. Even though, this might seem silly... running to me is a very big part of my life now. When I run/bike, I take a note card with me (that has a bible passage on it) and try to memorize/meditate on a His Word.
5. A bed to sleep in (certainly not number 5 because its the least important). I dont realize how privileged I am to actually have a nice bed to sleep in. SO many people out there dont even have a bed. But the Lord is SOO good and faithful, He has provided everything I need.

I don't thank the Lord enough for everything He has provided. To God be the glory great things He hath done!!!

Please be in prayer for the GNOM team III

The GNOM team will be in Guthrie, Oklahoma November 11-16. I have been praying about this effort for a long time now and I just pray that I will be able to get off work and help out with the team.

Please also be in prayer for my family.

Sometimes I feel like I dont say the right things. What I mean is that... when I talk to people, I sometimes forgot that wonderful old saying "think before you speak". I am someone who loves to talk and loves to talk a lot. But, please pray that everytime I talk to someone I think everytime I speak. (I have just been having some troubles with saying something and taking it back... because it came out the wrong way!... talk about frustration!) I am bringing this up, because I think that I might have lost a friendship over something. My Sarcasm. I do like to be funny... but, I forget that a lot of people dont get it. And then when I say "Im sorry" or "Just kidding" they still don't believe me.

Psalms 86

Heather Anne

DISCIPLESHIP CONFERENCE

This past weekend I went up to the Discipleship Conference in Kansas City, KS. At the beginning of the semester I was praying that I would not be so stressed out with school and work (because that is how I usually am). But, the Lord has just given me a peace about everything. The Lord has been working out my emotional problems and friendships! He is so good.
Now since I am in the groove of school I have a better idea of what the day is going to bring. (time wise) And since I am so schedule-oriented I needed something that I could stick with!

Oh yeah... last weekend I ran in a 5k and got first in my age division and 38th overall (there were a little over 300 runners!)!! Its was so exciting and I got a medal.
At 5am 2 days a week I am running a little over 5 miles with some moms and that has been a blast!

I appreciate your prayers...

The Lord is so good!!

I am going to post some new pictures soon...

A New Beginning...

I had an amazing chat with my A & P professor this morning and it was so encouraging. I was able to tell her what I wanted to do in my life, what goals I have and in the end was able to share my testimony with her. We both cried and talked about it. Just be in prayer that the Lord will keep me focused on Him and only Him!

Thats all Folks...

Heather Anne

Saturday evening...

The Lord has really working in my life and I just thought I would write some thought down.

I went to the Wichita Conference last weekend and Jonathan Brower brought powerful and convicting messages before us that weekend. He focused on the book of Ecclesiastes. I had, honestly, not ever read that book so it was good to read from it, now im studying it. All of my thoughts last weekend were "Man, I have way too much". Thats all I could think of, and it was really frustrating. I have an amazing job... that really provides more than I could ever ask for. Im an 18 year old girl that only has her mind set on 2 things. The first... trying to glorify my God, and Savior more and more. But... that seems to get harder. The second... becoming a nurse. I want to be able to work with kids in the Medical field, and I know that whenever I am around kids I feel better about myself.

Another thing... these past couple of weeks I have realized how much I love kids. I was babysitting last night and one of the kids, Georgia (she is 8) asked me "Heather, who made God?" I told her that God has always been there and asked her if she knew who God's son was and she answered correctly "Jesus". I love this little girl to death, I would do anything for her... or for any kid for that matter. They are just so interested in everything and always to know more. It was just so encouring to talk to this little child our God! He is so amazing... never failing.

So many times I think that I am such a retard for wanting to hang out with kids more that people my own age... is that weird? Maybe kids listen better... I dont know. Its just been a confusing week, but the Lord is good, as always.

Have a race tomorrow morning... it should be fun, wish me luck!!

Just be praying for me... school and work are going to be tough.

This week has been full of so many wonderful activities. Recently, I feel like im not doing something right. In school, work or even with my friendships... I just think of everything I am failing in. Its not healthy. But, yesterday, I had a good conversation with one of the attorneys in the firm and just saying how thankful she (and the whole firm) was to have me be apart of their practice. After I heard that, it really made me praise Jesus, I just had a huge rush of excitement.

The next thing was... How much of a terrible sinner I am. I was on the phone with a good friend last night and when he called I was reading the book of James when he asked what I was reading about, I told his I was in chapter 3 reading about the "tongue". It was so convicting. We have it all so good, if we are Christians. Even if we sin, the Lord forgives us and it is so wonderful to be reminded of that. We (especially me) can get so carried away with telling just little white lies or talking about someone. Or even just thinking about something mean. Actions do speak louder than words.

Anyways... I just wanted to write and type. Plus, trial is over so its going to be a slow week at the office! But, thats all good! :)

Colorado was amazing. I would like to share what the Lord has been teaching me.
I started reading the book a couple of weeks ago, and once I read through the entire book, I just went through verse by verse and really took a look at what it meant.
Last Sunday, during our Sunday School hour Dan Vreeland spoke briefly from 1 Corinthians and it really helped me understand it. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts (glories), boasts (glories) in the Lord"

Talk about being Humble... something I, especially, need to work on.

3:16-21 - "Dont you know that you yourselve are God's Temple and that Gods spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys Gods temple, God will destroy him; for Gods temple is sacred, and you (we) are that temple. Don note deceive yourselves, if anyone of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a fool so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in GOds sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness", and again "The Lrod knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours."

We are Gods temple in everyhing we do, we need to honor and glorify Him. I run after work (around 5pm) and its hot outside.... but, i'd rather it be really hot than raining I guess!

You should register for the race too...
http://www.cityartscenter.org/

Yesterday (saturday), we had a Ladies Breakfast at the Chapel. (Beware... its long!!)

Hello from The Bush!

There are so many things that immediately rush to my mind that I want to share with you all! So many experiences that both Anne Marie and I have had that can hardly even be put in to words. Allow me to fumble with my words and describe some of the things the Lord has shown me and has been teaching Anne Marie and I these past weeks.

Since the last time I’ve written I can honestly say that I have had a pretty real “Zambian” experience. Some of you might have heard I had malaria. And yes, it’s true. I was bit by a wee little bug that made me feel pretty miserable. Some of the symptoms occurred for about 2 days, then it came full blown on the 3rd day and was gone completely by the 5th. Being surrounded by doctors and nurses certainly helped : )
The mission here has been visited by several doctors that come for 2 days. One day to see patients and diagnose while the second day is to perform surgery. A plastic surgeon is coming this Thursday and Friday to do many surgeries…pray everything will go according to plan during those surgeries. Anne Marie is getting lots of experience at the hospital…the other day she was able to actually deliver a baby! She was pretty excited, and the baby was very healthy.
The Preschool is going really good. Everyday the Lord gives me the strength to face around 80-100 children…thankfully having a translator to speak in Lunda and Luvale to the kids helps : ) The lady who helps me with the preschool is Lillian. She is a dear sister in Christ and we have had many opportunities to witness to the kids. I try to keep a daily schedule every day. Usually we have some exercises (since it’s very chilly in the mornings), and about 10 minutes of fun action songs. “My God is so Big,” “I’m in the Lords Army” “In-Right, Out-right,” etc… after that I begin the process of teaching them simple and helpful day-to-day English words. We’ve been going over introducing our selves and telling where we are each from. And the kids have been memorizing their alphabet pretty diligently. It surprises me how quickly these kids catch onto anything I’m doing…reminds me that I need to be vigilant in showing forth His love, that He might be given all the glory and honor. After all of the English teaching is finished, we usually head outside and sit down for a good 20-30 minute Bible Lesson. The kids are really attentive, and it’s such a blessing having Lillian there to translate the stories that are being told in English. We’ve been looking at different parables these past 2 weeks…it’s neat when some of the older kids catch onto the fact that the “story” Jesus is telling is actually a “story” about us and how we should be living our lives. You can be praying this Monday and Tuesday as I will be giving my testimony to the 3 different classes I’m teaching on Monday and Lillian will be sharing her testimony on Tuesday. We told them yesterday that we had something special to share with them and it was going to be about our decision to follow Jesus Christ. Perhaps it will prick one of their little souls…

Well…from what I’ve heard, some of you might have received some pictures of people Anne Marie and I have met over the past few weeks. One of the pictures is of some dear, old ladies that have been so helpful with learning the language! They speak NO English…but just by hand gesturing we have been able to figure things out. It was fun, when one day Anne Marie, Claire (a sister in Christ from Ireland who visited for 2 weeks), and I came to their little village with our chitangi material. They taught us how to properly wear it and wrap it around ourselves, it was quite fun! And then some of them were grinding their dried cassava in a wooden bowl about 2 feet deep with a thick stick about 4 feet long and they taught us how to properly grind it. Several times, we’ve surprised them with fresh fruit, scones, and cookies…their faces light up every time. It’s been a blessing getting to know them.

Abba has been so patient with me, teaching me daily to rely on Him here and that “I am crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and GAVE Himself for me.” Gal. 2:20 The least I can do is give myself fully to Him. Being here in Africa has brought forth in my mind a different aspect of sin, love, and grace. And another facet of what it meant for Christ to have “compassion.”

This e-mail should probably be wrapped up, and yet I have failed horribly at fully relaying to all of you the many things that have been going on. All I can say is that their smiles have changed me, their constant handshakes have befriended me, and my heart breaks that these beautiful people might come to know our Lord Jesus Christ and the simplicity of the gospel. Truly, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” James 4:14. May we live daily to proclaim His death, His life, and His grace that is oh so very deep. And what a day of rejoicing it will be when we see Him face to face!

In Abba’s Hands,
Melissa

Romans 12:1-2

2 Corinthians 4:16 - 5:9

This is Dad's Bike... Dad, got his motorcycle license a week ago and has been earnestly looking for a bike, but he's taking his time to make sure he gets the right one... so that he and I can both ride on it! Because I will be finishing up my course next weekend! eek...

Well, so sum it all up, the Lord is so good and has been consistently keeping meals on our plates and a roof on our head, and we are all so thankful!!

Heather Anne!
